What to expect during a session
When it comes to working with trauma--especially complex trauma--our first job is to increase the chances that your system (body + mind + Nervous System) experiences some safety. Safety isn't something you know, it's something you feel. Setting up a regular, standing appointment can be a signal to your system of a little predictability.
Working this way allows me--as the facilitator--to learn first about your body's unique language. It allows me to learn about how your system has managed and survived until now. Taking time to learn about your unique system, allows us to work *with* your body's intelligence, rather than against it.
You can stop series work at any point. If you decide to work with me in a series, you can stop at any time for any reason. I just ask for 24 hours notice for cancelations.
I have found that people I work with who have complex trauma experience the biggest positive shifts in the first 3 series (21 sessions). People who do not have complex trauma and are interested in learning more about somatic exploration often see positive shifts in within the first series.
How most sessions look
Every session is a little different, but for the most part you can expect:
Beginning: 5-20 minutes sitting and talking. While I listen to your words, I am also paying attention to what your body is communicating so that I can adapt my session plan.
Middle : ~20-30 minutes of somatic work (this can be hands-on/ touch work or work with inner somatic exploration, sitting)
If I work using touch, it is different from some types of massage--I work over your clothing and I am not fixing or correcting anything--I am simply adding support through my hands and my intention. Our bodies and nervous systems are truly amazing. Often, this gentle support is the missing ingredient for the body let go of what it has been holding.
End: ~10-20 minutes sitting, talking. This allows your body to integrate whatever shifts have taken place. At this point we might talk about a somatic practice you can try out until our next session.
Communication
Throughout our time together I will be listening to you and asking questions. Sometimes I may invite you to use your imagination in a particular way. You may or may not choose to participate in this way. However, it is necessary that you maintain a level of alertness throughout the session.
